Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. is the 17th Chief Justice of the United States. He was born in Buffalo, New York on January 27, 1955. Roberts was married to Jane Sullivan in 1996.
Under the Judiciary Act of 1869, the Supreme Court's composition includes a Chief Justice and eight Associate Justices. Appointment to the Supreme Court requires presidential nomination and Senate confirmation.
